About

A little about my journey

Hello, My name is Gabriela I'm currently residing in Brazil, all my family is from Portugal, which means I have strong roots with the culture, I'm a digital Nomad, Designer, Seafarer, Photographer and Creative by nature.
With a Bacharel in Graphic Design from Belas Artes de São Paulo in 2011 (Beauty Arts School in São Paulo), I have been working in graphic design and photography ever since, with a vision to become an entrepreneur.

My first work abroad in a cruise industry was in 2013, when I embarked in Italy for with Costa Crociere as a photographer. After a few other investments and start-up participation in Brazil I went back to the ocean with Carnival Cruise Lines, with the help of the agency Cast-a-Way I was able to fulfill the role as Graphic Designer, I want to mention cast-a-way here, because I was applying for an entree level position as a photographer and they instructed me to a position that fitted better my skills, which I appreciate a lot, In CCL I got the chance to learn and understand how to work for not only one ship, but provide support to an entire fleet (By the time was about 20 ships), under the photo department I develop products for retail, implement many projects for internal and external use, learn and support the photo department as a whole, within Carnival I had an opportunity to work as a Guest Technology Lead project, due to an accident in that year I had to stop my working activities for 2 years, but during my short experience within the Guest Technology Department I learn how the onboard app works, and all the technologies integrated with it, providing support material (guides and instructions), also minor repairs to the app and being the contact between the customer and the developers, there I have to say I found my passion; Technology can cause a huge impact in the cruise experience (But this subject I'm delving withing my own studies and my master's degree).

While in Brazil I was co-owner of a startup called Cotabox, launching from zero supporting with UI, UX and administrative tasks, although it wasn't my ideal plan and support I moved forward to chase my own dreams, the start-up continues to grow brightly and I learn and grow a lot during that process.

In 2023 I went back to the cruise industry in a position of photographer at P&O, working with Tempest I learn how to use the most high-end technology in the photography, dealing with a different type of crowd I could learn many aspects of the photo industry inside the British cruise industry. I have to say Tempest is one of the few that invest in that type of technology which provides another level of photography at sea.

After P&O I got a quick call to work as a publishing content specialist aboard Evrima and Ilma from Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, as a small ship you get to put your hands to work in multiple areas; design, production, printing, logistic and training. I've seen the launch of Ilma, worked when the ship was still in the shipyard, a beautiful experience for those who are passionate about ships.

Now I'm currently studying Service Design with Bruna Amancio, my current mentor and teacher, moving my career towards the research and the "thinking" part of design. To those who doesn't know Design isn't only making things pretty, but to improve the lives and experience of others with your product, Design is my passion, I was always curious, transparent and honest since a little child, couldn't find a better place to myself.

I do have a weak spot to cruise industries and ship life, but I believe my skill set can provide another level of experience to their customers, but obviously this is a conversation for the near future.

If you are interested in hire me, as a freelancer, contract, or just interest in my ideas and consulting, I do provide trainings and consulting, among the traditional design-marketing work: strategy, posts, professional photography, brand development, brand analysis, launching, web design, and others, please contact me at the email: gaby@creativemalen.design
